About Sum Attack!

What is Sum Attack!?

Sum Attack! is a series of fast-paced math card games for kids, families, and classrooms. Players match cards by color, number, or equation, so every turn is a little bit of math practice. Wild cards like Reverse, Brain Freeze, Double Trouble, and the Sum Attack! Card keep the game unpredictable and fun. It's a screen-free way for kids to build math fact fluency while playing a game they actually want to play.

The games

Sum Attack! Addition & Subtraction is for ages 5 and up. It's made for kids who are learning addition and subtraction or still building fluency. The deck has 121 cards, including number cards, equation cards, and wild cards. Built-in icons on the cards work as counters, so younger players can count along as they learn.

Sum Attack! Multiplication is for ages 8 and up. It's a practice tool for building faster recall of multiplication facts. The deck has 163 cards. Players are encouraged to "fact check" each other as they play.

The Sum Attack! Bundle includes both games, so one purchase covers addition, subtraction, and multiplication and grows with your player.

Both games are for 2 to 10 players. Most rounds take 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of players and how fluent they are with their math facts.

How to play

Each player is dealt 7 cards. The rest of the deck becomes the draw pile, and the top card is flipped to start the discard pile.

On your turn, play a card that matches the top of the discard pile by color or by value. Equation cards count as their answer. For example, a 4 can be matched by another 4, or by 2 + 2, or by 6 - 2. In the Multiplication game, a 9 can be matched by 3 x 3.

Wild cards can be played on any turn. If you can't play, draw one card. If it's playable, you can play it right away. The first player to play all of their cards wins the round.

The Sum Attack! Card is the signature card. In Addition & Subtraction, you add up the last two number cards played and hand out that many cards to other players. In Multiplication, you add up the digits of the last number card played. No player can be given more than 6 cards at once.

Full rules, a guide to every wild card, and worked examples are on the How to Play page.

Who made it

He earned his Master of Education from UCLA. He designed the Sum Attack! card series so students, teachers, and families could learn and love math, one friendly game at a time.

Sum Attack! is made by Level Up Learning Lab, a small, family-run business based in California. Every order is packed and shipped by our family, and a real person reads every message.
